Bio
The first incarnation of the band went by the name Ape, comprising Tim Croft (guitar/vocals), Chris Ledger (drums) and Keith Turner (bass). They came together around 1996, playing covers while learning to play their instruments, and started to then play their own material. After a handful of very low-key gigs, the three wound up all relocating to Newcastle.
Changing to My Son Leonard, they played a few more low-key gigs, and recorded two demos with the assistance of Owain Bennett. Keith then left the band.
Owain came in to play bass, and the band became Phased Array. Following a period of practising and reshaping, Phased Array played a mighty one gig before Chris left the band.
Tim and Owain spent the next 18 months just jamming on riffs, with Owain moving to drums. There was the occasional audition of new drummers, but none of them worked out. After a brief period considering the idea of Owain staying on drums and recruiting a new bassist, they went back to looking for a new drummer. Finally, Scott Dolan walked through the door, and the drummer crisis was over.
This drummerless time was very productive, as new gear was bought, and the music got heavier, lower, louder and better. With Scott on board, the band realigned and locked in, occupying a different head space.
Phased Array are now gigging their new material as regularly as anyone will let them...
